Given the population, Ashbourne is desperately overdue a regional sized park (80 acres minimum). The lands proposed for re-zoning as public greenspace are in an ideal location for all residents to access and enjoy. Any alternative location (further from the town) would be impractical not to mention inequitable excluding residents without cars, mobility issues etc.
Provision of a public park is an investment in the mental and physical health and well-being of this Community and would mean that all residents have access to much needed green space, fresh air, quiet, nature. It would facilitate physical exercise and community engagement which in turn would have beneficial affects on mental and physical health.
I am a keen runner and mother of [Redacted_Personal Information]children. At the moment, if you want to go for a run - all the routes avalable are through estates, running on concrete paths. If you want to walk in a park/green space you need to get in your car and travel to somewhere like the Phoenix park. As a resident of Ashbourne and a tax payer I dont think its too much to ask that residents and children would have access to an open green space (size reflecting the population) in their local area.
