Litir Chumhdaigh
I'm living in Ashbourne 5 years and am a parent to small children. I believe that Ashbourne desperately needs a public park of at least 80 acres.
The proposed location and size of the new park is perfect. The park must be at least 80 acres to serve not only Ashbourne but the surrounding areas. A lot of work has already been put into this and it would be so wasteful to not go ahead with it or to scale it back. Why should residents of Ashbourne have to drive to another town or more likely another county just to go for a walk in a park? Houses are being built on every spare patch of land but there are no facilities for the residents. What are the rates, levies and property tax collected in Ashbourne being used for? Compared to other towns in Meath, Ashbourne has been forgotten when it comes to public amenities. Lockdown in Asbourne was so stressful, especially for parents as we had no where to go. People walked the same streets in housing estates and main roads which wasn't good for anyone's physical or mental health. Children need somewhere to play. Once the land and the entrance near Churchfileds has been secured Meath County Council can work with the residents on the funding. Residents have already fundraised for the legal battle over the greenspace at Millbourne and we can do so again if needs be. It makes good sense from an economic, social and environmental points of view. It will make to the town more attractive and keep trade within the town instead of in neighbouring Dublin. It will improve the health and wellbeing of residents and an opportunity for us to be a community. It will be better for the environment as right now we all have to drive to get to a park.
