Pedestrian and Cycling Improvement Scheme Ratoath

Non–Statutory Public Consultation

Proposed Design Options

Meath County Council is opening a process of public consultation on Thursday, 27th May 2021 around proposed Design Options for a Pedestrian and Cycling Improvement Scheme, specifically between the Steeple Chase Hill Roundabout and the Sommerville Roundabout in Ratoath.

In late 2020, Meath County Council published a Part 8 proposal as part of a Pedestrian and Cycling Improvement scheme for Ratoath. Due to the high number of submissions received in relation to the number of Trees proposed to be removed along the Woodlands section of the scheme, the Part 8 proposal was withdrawn. At the February 2021 meeting of Ratoath Municipal District, Meath County Council agreed to review the design of the original Part 8 proposal and to devise other options to try to reduce the number of trees lost.

The consultants working on the scheme have undertaken the initial stages of development, consisting of the identification of constraints and have developed two revised options that try to find a balance between tree retention and providing a safe walking and cycling route. These are:

  • Option 1 which requires 23 trees to be removed and,
  • Option 2 which requires 11 trees to be removed.

In advance of identifying a “Preferred Design Option” for the project, we wish to consult further with the public. If members of local communities, cyclists, pedestrians and other road users, interested individuals or groups have any comments in relation to the proposed design options, we will use the submissions received to inform the Part 8 proposal for the overall walking and cycling improvement scheme for Ratoath, that will be on display later in 2021.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and associated restrictions, we will not have the opportunity to hold a traditional, in-person public consultation event during this round of public consultation. However, we are still very keen to receive your feedback on the scheme.

We are very anxious to get as wide a range of views as possible, and we want to engage with as many people as possible in the consultation process, so that we can be confident that the proposals are the best way forward.

Details of the pedestrian and walking scheme will be on the Council’s website (https://consult.meath.ie) from Thursday 27th May 2021 to Friday 11th June 2021.

Submissions should be made no later than 5.00p.m. on Friday, 11th June 2021 via the Council’s website https://consult.meath.ie or by email to transport@meathcoco.ie

Alternatively, submissions can be made by post to: Ratoath Pedestrian and Cycling Improvement Scheme, Transportation Department, Meath County Council, Buvinda House, Dublin Road, Navan, County Meath, C15 Y291.
